Deposit not returned despite numerous promises


We hired a van back in June, and they seemed to be very helpful. They were a day late picking the van up, but they were good all the same.
i noticed that the deposit hadn't been refunded the next month, and after a phone call we were told that it would be refunded within a few days. They continued to promise the refund, and then we recieved our next statement. Not only had they not refunded the requested £250, but they'd taken another £250!
Now we're owed £500, and still waiting. We've done everything they've asked, but now we feel as though we're stuck. They keep telling us that the cheque was paid in on the 24th august, but as we keep saying the bank has no record of it. How they get away with stealing money is beyond us, they continue to lie, and are extremely unhelpul. THIS IS AN AWFUL COMPANY AND SHOULD NEVER EVER BE USED!!!!!!
