Failure to return Deposit - 17 Seater Minibus Hire (24 hours)

I made a booking in May for the hire of a minibus in July. They immediately took full payment for the hire from my Credit Card and a further 500GBP deposit. I wasn't impressed with that, but let it slide at the time.

Anyway, fast forward to approximately 6 weeks following the return of the minibus (in perfect condition) and I am still yet to receive the refund of the deposit.

I have made three separate phone calls to them and on each occasion was told that the refund would be returned the following day. I am yet to receive any money from them.

I have also sent them 4 emails requesting the refund both via their online form and the info@ email address and have not once received a response.

My next step will have to be a formal letter of intent (sent via recorded delivery) to proceed via legal process.

This is a real shame as the actual service provided was top-notch in this case. The van turned up on time, in good condition and was efficiently collected.

I only wish I had checked online prior to booking as their name is officially mud and having seen the hundreds of complaints (largely concerning the same thing) all over the net, I would NEVER have booked with them.

Same here. Hired a van in june - they charged a £250 deposit. Bloke came and took back van and said it was fine, I don't have any paperwork signing off the van any more as we were moving house and it's lost in the move. They took a further £250 and when I complained they said sorry and would return the £500 straight away. I thought it was a clerical error.
2 weeks later got fobbed off on the phone by someone and started to smell a rat, contacted my bank (FIRST DIRECT) who issued a chargeback for he extra £250 through VISA and said they would follow up the initial deposit. Have just found out that A1 are disputing my chargeback and saying the van was damaged. Thieves. I have a friend who works for Watchdog and am contacting him. Will have to hope this gets sorted but what the hell. Can't believe this can happen to so many people.
