Van hire and rude service - Luton van


I ordered a Luton van with tail gate for 10am last saturday 11/8/2012. At 9.30am we were called to say the van which had been allocated had a fault (tailgate not working). and another van was being sent up from warrington but would be an hour and half late, this wasn't acceptable, as we were driving we were driving at the time , we phoned back on reach of our destination. My daughter spoke on the phone and tried to come to a solution by asking if they had anything else available and said that the van much of been checked when it was bought back after its last hire. the man on the phone was very obnoxious, told us an hour and half wasn't long and we could have an hour and half added on at the end of the day, and then put the phone down on my daughter. we had left plenty of time at the end and didn't need extra time after. We wanted the van at 9am but couldn't so accepted 10am at time of booking. We were going to Scotland to clear my late husbands house, I'd arranged a skip to be left on saturday morning, which i now have to pay for and didn't get to scotland to use. Also i couldn't have an immediate refund of the van hire , therefore i couldn't hire from another company because i didn't have enough money to do this. Its now Thursday the 16th of june and i still have received the refund in my bank. I've tried phoning A1 since was told to put in a complaint via their website but have heard nothing either by email or phone. The weekend cost me an awful lot of money whiich i'd saved purposely, i'm discusted with my treatment. I have since put on my facebook to avoid A1 van hire at all costs and will continue to spread on my facebook and by word of mouth its a No Go Area

###DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY### I hired a minibus from these rogues on 23rd June to take my daughter and her friends to Alton Towers for a birthday treat. Almost one month later I still have not had my £500 deposit returned and have heard all of the excuses listed on this site. I have telephoned many times and spoken to "John" who has given me no hope of receiving a refund and is obviously well aware of the thievery that is going on. I have also sent the obligatory e-mail with my details and booking reference to enable a refund. I've also been told that due to last months banking problems the system is a little bit behind.
I have spoken with citizens advice consumer services who have advised me to send a letter by registered mail demanding a refund with a 30 day deadline and threatening legal action after that as that would be the only thing that would stand up in court.
I am determined to do all I can to get my money back and to speak to the right people and stop these thieves from causing any more misery although with the amount of complaints made so far I'm disapointed something hasn't been done already.
